See and Comment on 35% Plans for New USCG Fast Response Cutter Dock
- February 26 2026:
The United States Coast Guard is building a new facility for a Fast Response Cutter to be stationed at Sitka. It also includes new moorage for the Buoy Tender Kukui. As part of the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) review, the Alaska State Historic Preservation Office found that the new facility will have an adverse impact on the site's historic integrity. In response to that, the SHPO, the USCG, Sitka Tribe of Alaska and the Sitka Maritime Heritage Society, with concurrence by the National Park Service, developed an MOA with mitigation that includes new interpretive signage, and community review of the plans at the 35% stage.
The Sitka Maritime Heritage Society was pleased to be part of the development of the MOA and took on responsibility for sharing the 35% plans with the public.
